Graphics cards are the main focused thing for the Enthusiasts/ gamers when they build their gaming rig and as AMD fans were in a long waiting period for their favorite AMD’s dual GPU card which could compete with the Nvidia GTX 690 and their waiting period is over now as AMD has finally launched their dual GPU card AMD HD 7990 dual GPU card. The gamers focus on the GPU mostly as they are gonna play latest DX11 or DX11.1 games with ultra-extreme setting so dual GPU cards are their first choice but as AMD postpone their AMD HD 7990’s launch many time and they had only one choice to make i.e. GTX 690 but now AMD’s beast comes in the market but I personally think that it is too late. Anyhow lets take a look at the features of AMD HD 7990.
The AMD HD 7990 has the black and red color scheme which is pretty similar to AMD HD 6990 as well as their AMD HD 5970 is also of similar looks. AMD has decided to go with the 6GB video memory which is pretty good for multi-monitor gaming rig as well as extreme gaming. The launch of AMD HD 7990 give a secondary option to the gamer but not to forget Nvidia GTX Titan which is also a $1000+ graphics card but it’s a single GPU card. The AMD has not include the boost clock feature in the AMD HD 7990 and I think it’s a bit unfair for the user who is paying $1000+ whereas Nvidia GTX 690 and GTX titan, both has the boost clock feature and Titan has boost 2.0 technology which is much better than the simple boost clock feature. The AMD HD 7990 has huge “Aluminum Vapor Chamber” heat sink including 4 heat pipes and 62 fins. This card’s heat sink is cover with the custom made housing which is common in the AMD cards. The AMD HD 7990 has 8.6 billion transistors and 4096 stream processor for the extreme performance. The AMD HD 7990 also has 6GB memory with the bandwidth of about 576 GB/s and the computing power of 8.2 TFLOPS. The AMD HD 7990 is 12-inch in length so before buying it you should be sure that it fits in your case. The AMD HD 7990 has three fans which will surely impact on the temperatures as well. The AMD HD 7990 has the clock speed of 1000 MHz which is pretty good regarding to dual GPU power but it does not support the boost clock feature. There are 32 ROPS, 128 TAUS and 2048 SPUS are also improving the performance of AMD HD 7990. It supports the latest PCIe 3.0 slot. The AMD HD 7990 requires 2x 8 Pin power connector. The AMD HD 7990 support the Quad-Fire technology so you can put 4x AMD HD 7990 in a single gaming PC. The AMD HD 7990 has 4x Mini-Display ports version 1.2 and 1x Dual-DVI for connecting the monitor(s)/ projector(s) and it can handle 5 displays at the same time so professionals are gonna love it. Now lets take a look at the performance of AMD HD 7990.
The AMD HD 7990 is no doubt, the fastest dual GPU card in the market at the moment. It beats the Nvidia GTX 690 by 7-8 frames in every game except Crysis 3 that we had tested on it so its faster but the question is that if you are an owner of GTX 690 i.e. already spent $1000+ on GTX 690. The margin of 7-8 frames is enough for you to spend another $1000+ on AMD HD 7990. Yes, It is faster but does it worth of spending $1000+ on it. In my opinion, waiting for the new NVidia’s dual GPU would be a better idea if you are already an owner of GTX 690 but if you want to buy a dual GPU card and you do not own GTX 690 than AMD HD 7990 would be the best choice to make. If you had enough money and want the best, AMD HD 7990 is the best choice that you can made.
