Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 3TB Review + BenchMarks

The SSDs are become a must have thing for every one these days as they are really fast and shock proof as they have no moving parts so people feels much secure when they have an SSD in their laptop while carrying it around any where, where as the capacity in a hurdle in the way of SSDs to fully replace the HDDs. The market of full of HDDs from 250GB To 3TB HDDs are available from many HDD manufacturers and today we are going to take a look at Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 HDD. Hitachi is not the manufacturer who introduces the 3TB version of their HDDs but they are the first to provide a 3TB HDD to consumer which has rotational speed of 7200 rpm as well where as Western Digital has also 3 TB HDDs but they do not have the 7200 rpm rotational speed.

Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 is a great HDD and especially when it comes to the performance + capacity. The Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 3TB has a platter design of 6x 300GB and SATA 6 Gbps interface with buffer memory of 64MB. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 has the old 512 bytes/sector format instead of new 4K format but they give the reason for that as well which is to make the performance and latency rate more consistent and increases reliability. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 claimed to be fastest 3TB HDD in the market and it is also faster than the previous Hitachi HDD which is 7k2000 and the power efficiency is also improved in 7k3000 HDD. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 is also available in 3TB, 2TB, 1.5TB capacity with 26.1 mm of height as well. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000’s top side is silver colored as the mostly drives have and black color from other sides. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 has SATA + power coections on one side with a jumper section and according to the Hitachi , its to keep it power up in standby mode, this is a good thing form Hitachi and from down side it has pretty similar design as other HDDs, have a circuit board. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 should be used with UEFI based motherboard and the Hitachi mention that its not going to work on Win XP and if you want to do that, you have to use third part software/hardware to do that and Hitachi is not going to help you in this problem.

Lets take a look at BenchMarks results.....

Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 is really good HDD as a 3TB HDD and its performs really great in Benchmarks and it performs really consistent and still in our test system, it doing a good job and runs with better power efficiency as well. It’s the best 3TB consistent performer HDD. Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 is not the fastest at the time as it a little slower than Seagate Barracuda 3TB but its more consistent.

  • Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 is good improvement over 7k2000.
  • Excellent performance.
  • Excellent latency rate.
  • Top class consistency.
  • Reasonable Performance.

  • Not the fastest at the time.
  • No XP support from Hitachi.

Western Digital AV-GP 3TB Review + BenchMarks

HDDs are become an integral part of the PC and because the SSDs are not at the stage where they completely replace the HDDs because of the capacity of storage and the mostly people has an HDD for storage in their PCs with SSD as boot drive for high speed boot up as well. As we all known that WD caviar Green 3TB has been a sensational success for WD in the consumer HDD market and they launch their new HDD series after the caviar Green and its  WD AV-GP  HDD which come with 3TB and 2.5TB capacity as well. WD AV-GP 3TB model is under the guns today and we are going to test its performance today.

WD AV-GP HDD are available in 2.5 TB and 3 TB capacity in most markets and this model still have no rpm or rotational speed mention on it as the caviar green model. Performance WD AV-GP 3TB claimed to be faster for video and audio content and its recommended for multimedia applications. WD AV-GP 3TB has 3x 750GB platters with the old SATA 3 Gbps interface and still o rpm mention on it as well. On the top it has white and green design as eco friendly. From down side it has design pretty similar to the caviar green HDD and from the side it has the SATA and power connection as other HDDs have. The body is of black color from all sides except front where model and other things are mention. The WD AV-GP 3TB runs a bit noisy and hotter than caviar green HDD.

Now lets take a look at BenchMarks to determines the real performance.

WD AV-GP 3TB is of good design but pretty similar to Caviar Green HDD and it work great in BenchMarks and latency rate and consistacy is better than caviar green but runs a little hot and a bit of more noise produced by it as well.

  • Excellent Performance in BenchMarks.
  • Nice latency Rate.
  • Consistent performance.
  • Good for multimedia applications.
  • Reliable as well.
  • Runs hotter and noisy than caviar green.
  • A bit more bucks to but than caviar green.

WD VelociRaptor 600GB Review + BenchMarks

Hard Drives has been the main storage devices from many years almost when computer was invented and in today’s world HDDs are still used for storing the data as they had great capacity with low prices as well .Western Digital has its own image in the mind of people and they really do well with their Caviar green and black hard drives and they are currently the leading HDD manufacturer in the world. Western Digital HDDs are famous for their performance and reliability. Today we going to take a look at Western Digital VelociRaptor series HDD which is claimed to be the Fastest HDDs in the market and today we have Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB HDD of SATA 6 Gbps interface to review.
Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB has the same look as the previous 300GB HDD has and the big giant black deign is really cool and become the face mark of Western Digital VelociRaptor HDDs. The Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB has the SATA 3 interface and the great rotational speed of 10,000 rpm which is really cook for read / write speeds as well as for the latency rate which is really needed for the faster boot of OS and Western Digital still claims that Western Digital VelociRaptor HDDs are the fastest on the market. The Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB has the great read and write speed and especially the latency rate is really great and the best as an HDD. The 10,000 rpm is the good thing and the bad at the same time because that high speed of rotation causes more noise as well and the most of the users really hate the noise and especially if it comes from the HDD. Any way the Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB still brings the Windows 7 ultimate x64’s desktop screen in just 17 seconds and its really great and to be honest it the best time for any HDD and no one other comes near to 20 seconds as well.
Now lets run some BenchMarks to see the performance results….

Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB is still a great drive to have but its noisy. It also has the best latency rate and the fastest in win 7 boot than any other HDD in just 17 seconds and look really cool in the monster design which becomes the face mark of Western Digital VelociRaptor HDDs. It cost a little more as well but still a long way to go as far as capacity is concern because its has 300GB,600GB,1TB versions and some people want to have at least 2TB HDD as storage device, not for booting.

  • Good Performance.
  • Nice Design and look.
  • Fastest Win7 boot.
  • Lower latency Rate.

  • Noisy and Runs a bit hotter.
  • Expensive.

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200rpm Review + BenchMarks

Today, the world has been king of speedy train which is looking to be as fast as they can and every person wants an SSDs in his PC for ultimate performance. The SSDs era has been started about 3 years ago with blazing read/write speeds but still SSDs have to developed more and their capacity of storage are not enough for a complete HDD replacement. Seagate has its own place in the mind of people. They always comes with some good technology and innovation as well. Their TB platter architecture has been in the talks when they launch their HDDs with high capacity with 1TB platters inside. The Barracuda HDD series has been still in talks as they are very reliable and solidly build and that is why today we are going to review the Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD, the 2nd HDD in this week.

Seagate Barracuda 3TB has great, enough capacity of 3TB  which is enough for the 98% users and if some one needs more than its better to have 2x 3TB HDDs than 6x 1TB HDDs or 3x 2TB HDDs. Seagate Barracuda 3TB has a rate of 7200 rpm for better read/write speeds with consistency. Seagate Barracuda 3TB has 64MB buffer memory which is another must have feature for that 3TB capacity as well and it has SATA 6 Gbps interface. Seagate Barracuda 3TB consumes about 7.7 watts at full load and 5.8 in idle mode and 0.8 in standby mode is our tests.
Seagate Barracuda 3TB has the legacy design as the previous HDDs of Seagate has, like top has been made with metal with the Seagate logo on it and lower black portion is still as other has and from down side , the electronic circuit has been visible as on the WD HDDs and this makes the chances of damage increased more because you can damage that circuit by many reason or when inserting in the case. The font side consist of the SATA and the power in heads to connect the Seagate Barracuda 3TB HDD with the motherboard to use. Overall the Seagate Barracuda 3TB seems to be a good HDD and design is same as the previous Seagate HDDs has so the new thing is the only 1TB platters instead of 600GB of 500GB than the previous generation.
Now lets take a look at BenchMarks results…..

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM is good HDD as far as capacity is concern and performance is not bad at all as well. Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM is faster than the 3TB WD Caviar green….there is no doubt in that. If I went to the market to buy an HDD for my PC, I would definitely prefer Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM over the WD Caviar Green. The only thing that went to the opposite of Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM is that it consumes a bit more power but that’s not a big factor because its an Desktop base HDD and desktop users don’t care if their HDD consumes 7 or 8 watts.

  • Great capacity.
  • 7200 rpm + 3 TB is good idea for performance + capacity.
  • Reliable HDD.
  • Innovate 1 TB plotters inside.
  • Run a bit cool.
  • Excellent Performance.
  • Consumes a bit more power.
  • A bit expensive.
