Kingston DT Ultimate 3.0 Gen 2 32GB Review + BenchMarks

Kingston is very well known brand for its reliable products as they are top brand of RAM market and
going at the top in the USB Flash Memory Manufacturers.Today we take a look at Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3 Gen 2 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Memory/Drive.Back in Q2 2011 the marketing team over at Kingston Technology announced that the company had begun shipping its first second generation of USB 3.0 enabled DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Flash drives. These drives take advantage of the latest USB 3.0 technology that has up to ten times the data transfer rates of the current USB 2.0 specification. The original DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Flash was rated as having read speeds of up to 80MB/s and a write speeds of up to 60MB/s. While computers with USB 3.0 ports are still few and far between, this hasn't stopped Kingston from embracing the new technology. Last fall, the company introduced its first USB 3.0 flash drive, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0. Available in capacities up to 64GB, the drive was capable of reading at 80 MB/s and writing at speeds of up to 60 MB/s. The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 was also backwards compatible with USB 2.0. However, in some cases, it required a special Y-cable to provide enough power to initialize the drive.Kingston has now begun to ship its second generation USB 3.0 flash drive, the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2. While similar in appearance to the original DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0, this new drive uses a native USB 3.0 controller which offers better performance and power management. The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 is capable of reading at 100 MB/s and writing at 70 MB/s. It is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and can be powered completely off a computer's USB bus without the need for additional cables. To top it all off, the drive is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7 and is backed by a five-year warranty. This Flash drive was quick, but since it was released in September 2010 speeds of available USB 3.0 host controllers and NAND Flash have improved in terms of performance and pricing. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Gen 2 improves upon the original performance numbers and the new Gen 2 drive series is now rated as having up to 100MB/s read and 80MB/s write speeds. The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 that we received comes in enclosed in clam shell packaging and needs to be cut from the packaging, which is a bit of a pain. Kingston let us know that they have a wide variety of packaging options available and it is up to their retailer to pick what packaging they want to use. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 32GB USB 3.0 Flash drive was built with both speed and capacity in mind as Kingston wanted to make this Flash drive series ideal for data backup or fast transferring of large files.Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 USB flash drive was the fastest drive in Kingston's lineup until the HyperX came along, and it still performs admirably on a variety of review sites' benchmark tests. Reviewers find the Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2 faster, easier to use and physically cooler to operate than the previous generation of thumb drives in this series. The speedy read times on the DT Ultimate G2 are offset by slightly slower write times, especially for transfers involving thousands of small files, a design choice Kingston has made on a number of its high-speed USB flash drives, reviewers say.
