Asus G46VW Review + BenchMarks

Many people use to have a laptop while travelling around so mobility is their preference whereas some people are not much in favour of only mobility, they also want excellent performance as they also play games or for some heavy photo/video editing stuff, they want top class performance with a little compromise on weight. Many brands launch their performance/gaming laptops in the market with dedicated GPUs inside to perform what ever task the user wanted. Today we are going to take a look at Asus gaming laptop which offer performance and mobility as well, it is Asus G46VW .

Asus G46VW Has great design pretty much similar to ASUS G75 and the ROG style is really awesome and can be easily identified as ROG laptop as well. The black glare-free plastic and the aluminum work is the manufacturing this laptop is really good and the dual rear vents are same as the other ASUS gaming laptops have for better heat control and the black shade from top to bottom of laptop looks really cool to me. The display is really not according to ROG standard from design and can be easily twist a bit with a finger and may cause the problem to some users as well.

The screen of ASUS G46vw is looks good and match the design but the resolution is pretty average level, its only 1366x768 and really not a good choice as well, the brightness is pretty good and the contrast ratio is very decent and the person should not have a problem by using this laptop outside in day light but the 720p display is not really good in this ROG laptop, at least ASUS should use an HD+ 1600x900 display screen with it but 720p is just not enough for a gaming laptop. The viewing angles are not the problem with this TN LED panel and watching from side does not problematic but from above, it’s a bit difficult.

ASUS G46vw has a good keyboard as other ROG laptop has but the num pad is not present and the keys are really quiet and soft, they does not made noise with fast typing and some of other gaming laptops does, the keyboard has no special function keys as for switching b/t graphics and for LAN so that is not a good idea for a gaming laptop by my point of view. The touch pad is of decent large size and the smooth plastic surface is really nice , the Asus provide a software for better performance. The touch pad work very well in our tests and multi touch is really awesome. The button are really good and does not miss a single tap in our tests. Overall key board and touch pad is really good as far as performance is concern.

ASUS G46vw has stereo speaker instead of small subboofers which the other G series gaming laptop have and therefor it lack is bass but the sound quality is really good and watching movie is not a problem with some friends. The volume is pretty loud and clear and no problem in playing some songs on it.

ASUS G46vw has really great heat control, the two rear vent really make the difference in the performance and the laptops runs cool eve more cool than the other ROG laptops as well. The fan produce noise under load is not more than the other gaming laptops and it does not really matters when its noise is low than the other gaming laptops. The fan is audible when the laptop is in idle mode and may be because of fan size, ASUS made it in the way that laptop always runs cool so they compromise on noise a little.

As far as connectivity is concern, the ASUS G46vw has no ports at the front and on the back side, it has only Kingston lock. On the right side it has a VGA, a HDMI, 1x USB 3.0 port and a card reader whereas on the left side, it has AC-in, 2x USB 3.0, Ethernet port, a mini Display and 2x audio jack for in/out . It has Centrino Wireless-N 2230 Bluetooth 4.0 and “n” band wifi for high speed communication as well.

The battery life of 69Wh , 6 cell li-ion battery of ASUS G46vw is about 345 minutes which is really great for a gaming laptop as mostly gaming laptops lacks in battery life but this one does not, we run pretty much every tasks which a normal person does like MS office work, HD movie, gaming, internet surfing via wifi etc. to get the realistic results.

The ASUS G46vW is really a good laptop which come within $1300 and its performs really good in our test and runs very cool as well. The screen has a low resolution of 1366x768 but its brightness is nice and the fan produces a bit more noise in idle mode as well. Overall it’s a ROG gaming laptop for $1300 range.
