Patriot Pyro SE 240 GB Review + BenchMarks

Patriot has been a reliable brand in the mind of people and they deserve that because they made very reliable product as their RAM are famous for reliability.Today we take a look at Patriot Pyro SE 240 GB SSD.The market is changing though and the dominance of SandForce based SSDs seems to decrease. OCZ for example just released a product with their proprietary Indilinx controller and a handful of companies started selling products based on that Marvell controller. And that's an interesting dynamic to witness in the technology channel alright. To keep it up to snuff Patriot thus launched the Pyro SE, which comes with synchronous NAND flash memory.Nevertheless, when it comes to SandForce platform, the production volumes and brand recognition do not really matter too much. It is the controller developer who designs PCBs and firmware that is why all SandForce SF-2281 based SSDs are of almost the same quality and perform at practically identical speeds. The differences are mostly in the warranty terms, but this is something you can’t complain about with Patriot. This is a respectful well-known manufacturer with great reputation. Therefore if you are considering buying a SandForce based drive, then you should totally check out Patriot products alongside with the offerings from OCZ, Kingston or Corsair. Especially since in many cases Patriot offers a much more attractive price point. Therefore, when we received a 240 GB Patriot Pyro SE According to Patriot that will increase its sequential read and write performance to 550MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively, which makes the Pyro SE just as fast as the OCZ Vertex 3.Maximum 4K random write performance remained unchanged and is estimated at 85,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second). As is the case with most other SSDs, the performance of the Pyro SE drives varies according to their capacity, as smaller-sized units don't usually have all the memory channels available from the controller populated and might be a notch slower. The Pyro SE is priced competitively with other drives that use the same NAND and controller, like the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro, and it performs competitively, too. If you’re looking for a top-tier SSD with a SandForce controller and speedy 25nm synchronous NAND, the sparkly‑gray Pyro SE is just as good as the sparkly‑blue OWC drive.
