Asus VivoBook S202E Review + BenchMarks

ASUS has also been involve in the market competition from many years especially in the motherboard market and now they willing to get a good position in the ultrabook market as well. The Intel concept of the light weight and ultra thin laptops has been proved very profitable and every brand want to jumps in. ASUS is also trying that, let see how they do it. Now we are going to review the Asus VivoBook S200 ultrabook.

As the market is full of touch screen laptops and almost every upcoming laptop is touch screen capable because of latest windows 8. ASUS VivoBook S200 is also of the same touch screen family and has the windows 8 as main OS.  The total thinness of ASUS VivoBook S200 is just 22mm which is a plus point as well. This thing is of weight of 1.4Kg and its not as light weight as expected from any ultrabook as their main feature is portability and if you have a heavy machine then you just don’t want to take it with you all the time. The alloy covered lid and around the keyboard make it look awesome but by whole its medal made body make it’s a strong ultrabook with respect to small shock and hit, you know we often hit our laptop with hand or some time with book or close the lid with some extra force so this ASUS VivoBook S200 has the capability to absorb that. Overall by design this thing is good as you want it to be.
ASUS VivoBook S200 is powered with Intel 3rd Generation Core Processor, Intel core i3 3517u running at 1. 8 Ghz and 4GB of 1600Mhz DDR3 memory and 500GB 5400rpm HDD for storage.  The processor is not going to boost as its i3 processor so the 1. 8 Ghz with no boost feature is not really enough. The integrated HD 4000 are very good for daily task as photo editing etc are obviously you are not going to but this ultrabook for gaming. 500 GB HDD is a slow and if this VivoBook has an SSD then it would make some difference in performance for sure. Au the processor is of “U” sub family of Core I series so you can’t expect it to do multiple tasks firstly than “M” processors. The optical drive is not available and its not good for portability as you can't take a USB optical drive with you all the time.

This screen is of 11. 6 inch with touch ability at the resolution of 1366x768 pixels.  The screen is unfortunately less brighter than we were expecting to be and with the reflective surface there is too much glare when brightness is set to high.  The touch sensor are very responsive and they does not miss even a single time druring our tests. Colors are accurate enough with decent viewing angles.

ASUS sonic sound is just more than enough form all the aspects either its quality, loudness or what every , The quality is really great and awesome with good speakers. You can’t complaints this thing. ASUS VivoBook has one of the great audio output quality that we never had in the other ultrabook from all the brands.

The ASUS vivoBook has really great keys on the keyboard and they are not tiny so you can easily type what every you want to and you are never going to have problem by size / response of the keyboard. The track pad is just awesome and very responsive and it really make you feel great. Testing on windows 8 and it never miss a small gesture of finger as well as the button are responsive enough. Overall the keyboard and track pad are good enough.

On the left side , it has a SD card slot, headphone jack , a USB 2.0 port and as VGA port while on the right side it has a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port, a HDMI port and lock, Power jack for power adaptor. ASUS VivoBook  has a built-in Bluetooth 4.0 and High speed n Wifi for high speed internet. The front camera with 720p HD resolution, enough for good video calling/chat .Overall it has everything that you are going to need .

ASUS VivoBook with 5136mAh Li-Polymer battery the Vivo Book is just lasted for 221 minutes which is not too bad. During our test of battery life, we try to do what a normal user does in the daily routine. The battery timing of 3.68 hours you can do what ever you want to but some how we were expecting it to cross that 4 hours green point. Overall we the battery of VivoBook lasted for decent time but just not enough for an ultrabook.

ASUS VivoBook is really awesome when you put 1st sight on it, by design and body its very good and performance is decent for an ultrabook at price of $550. The touch screen is good enough and good keyboard and trackpad ASUS VivoBook is not going to disappoint you but battery timing is just not enough and i3 processor is just not right for a multi tasker but at price of $550, its not bad. The audio is very best even better than the $1200 ultrabooks. Overall this is the best ultrabook to get in $600 range

  • Great Design.
  • Nice solid metal body.
  • Good touch screen and keyboard+trackpad.
  • Excellent audio and good speakers.
  • Decent performance for $550 ultrabook.

  • Not for the fast multi taskering.
  • Battery life is just not enough.
  • No optical Drive.
