Asus VivoBook U38DT Review + BenchMarks

Notebooks have become a very important for daily life today and we done most of the hard work on the notebook which not only saves our time but the cost as well. When I bought my notebook, the thing which comes in my mind was the processor and battery life and in my opinion these are two basic things which a notebook must have i.e. latest and performer. Today we are going to review a ASUS notebook which is ASUS Vivo Book U38DT.

As far as design is concerned, ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a nice matt-finish surface design. ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has basically a dark grey color with the aluminum brushed surface as they used in their previous Vivo book notebook. ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a surface design which is pretty much dust resistance so to many users, it is very important and I also like this kind of surface for notebook as I am very allergic from dust. The surface is enough to provide the durability to ASUS Vivo Book U38DT and also it is hard enough to absorb some shock and scratches as well. To me the design of ASUS Vivo Book U38DT is very nice and I like it very much.

ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has 13.3 inches display which offers the resolution of 1366x768 @16:9 and with the matte-surface, its display looks good. ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a TN-panel (Anti-Glare) display which is a little old than the LED panel used by their competitors but it has a nice brightness which is easily better than the some other TN panels. The problem of colors is not causing much problem but the saturation is the only thing which on the lower edge as compared to ASUS Vivo Book U38DT’s competitors. As we have already discuss about its good brightness level, ASUS Vivo Book U38DT will not cause any viewing problem in outdoor use and it works well in our outdoor test. As the TN panels have a problem when the display is a bit back and the picture become a little dark, ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has the same problem which is become a legacy for TN panel displays but from sides, the viewing angles are pretty decent. Overall ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a good display.

ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a chicklet keyboard with the dark grey theme of color which pretty much matches the overall design of ASUS Vivo Book U38DT. The keyboard has a decent size of keys which does not causes any problem with illumination which is a new thing in ASUS notebooks and its great to see that. It does not have any negative impact of the performance of keyboard i.e. typing but the arrow keys are a little bit small. The key are good for typing and the only thing that frustrates me more was the combined DELL/INS key. The round edge keys make you feel good when you look at them. The touchpad is 10.8 cm x7.0 cm in diameter which is a decent size to me for touchpads. The buttons are integrated into the surface as some other latest notebooks have. Touchpad has some problem with the accuracy and it miss the touch sometimes especially in multi touch test, we found many flaws in that prospective and ASUS needs to work on touchpad for improvement.

The speakers of ASUS Vivo Book U38DT are pretty much of decent quality but not the best as they describe on their website. The quality is very much decent and the volume is good to watch the movies with some friends and we does not face any problem when I watch a movie with 3 friends in drawing room. The performance of speakers is good enough for gaming, watching movies or just listening some audio songs.

ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has overall low temperatures and especially the ASUS Vivo Book U38DT remain very cool during our tests and it does not cause any problem while using it on tap as well. ASUS Vivo Book U38DT remains under the danger level of temperature during the stress test. Overheating is not a problem with ASUS Vivo Book U38DT. The noise of the fan of ASUS Vivo Book U38DT is very low during the idle mode and it raise to high level when ASUS Vivo Book U38DT run some stress work so that is the only problem with noise of fan.

The ASUS Vivo Book U38DT is of 13.3 inches, and very thin so it does not have any optical drive. It has 1x USB 3.0 and a card reader on the left side and on the right side it has AC-in, HDMI, Mini VGA and 2x USB 3.0 ports and a audio jack. Ethernet port in not available so a adaptor is included for Ethernet connectivity. The ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has Bluetooth 4.0 and a “b/g/n” band wifi for high speed wireless communication as well.

ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a 48 watts battery which only lasts for 195 minutes in our battery life test which is very unacceptable for a modern notebook and it really disappoint me. We run pretty much all the application and task as Microsoft Office, typing, watching HD movie, audio songs, internet surfing via wifi etc. to get the most accurate result as in real life.

ASUS Vivo Book U38DT is a good notebook and perform decent in the benchmarks as it is AMD based notebook so it is cheap as well than Intel based notebooks. It has a decent display and good speaker as well. ASUS Vivo Book U38DT has a nice keyboard and low temperate in idle mode but it also had a poor touchpad and it became a noisy thing under stress. Overall ASUS Vivo Book U38DT is good notebook and cheap as well.
