Asus F55A Review + BenchMarks

Notebooks are the most searched topic and most people do some much research especially in America, Canada and other European countries these days. When I ask few people about their ideal notebook, i.e. what are the components or features they want to have in their personal notebooks. They replied me with some expected answers, all of them want their notebook to be faster but light weight and that is the same as my opinion and of most people who like mobility. The notebook is really hot these day and people are buying much more than past. As every brand has introduced its notebooks so competition is very tough among them and that thing cause some good notebooks being launched with less price. ASUS is also famous for its quality build notebooks so today we review another ASUS notebook, ASUS F55A.

ASUS F55A has the black color design with the black matte surface which give the ASUS F55A, a typical notebook look. The lid, down side and the palm rest are all well finished and the overall texture is good for griping as well. ASUS F55A is not much slim as its not a ultrabook. Mostly part of the case is been made with the plastic. If you grip the base unit on the two front corners it gives a little too. The open lid doesn't withstand much pressure, though the backside of the lid resists stress well. The hinges hold the lid tightly in position and bounce a little. I would say that ASUS F55A has a good design and body is solid enough for a notebook. The ASUS F55A is basically a typical notebook styled notebook as far as design is concerned.

ASUS F55A has a Samsung TN LED glossy display with the resolution of 1366x768 with the nice matte surface. The display has a good brightness and it is really good regarding to brightness level as mostly displays of notebooks of this range do not have good brightness level but ASUS F55A has. The contrast ratio of the display is pretty much decent and its good for the notebooks of this price range. The image quality is also good as it has no problem to display black images as most of other notebooks of this price range has that problem. The outdoor use of ASUS F55A is not problematic as the brightness level is enough for outdoor use so we have no problem while using ASUS F55A in the park. The only problem we encounter with ASUS F55A is the limitation of the viewing angles but if you bought a notebook of this price range than you have to compromise on some things.

ASUS F55A has a typical notebook keyboard as we have seen from many years. It has num pad as well so that is nicely oriented for the typing as well. The size of the keys is decent and that is enough for the typing as far as size of keys is concern. The keys have some problem, may be they are not well benched so whatever, they perform poorly in our typing test and many times, they miss the tap and the tap noise is louder than usual as well. The touch pad is also of decent size, it is about 10.5 x 7.3 cm in size and the keys are integrated into the surface and only a small white separation line in on it. It supports multi touch gesture as well. The overall performance of the touchpad in our test is pretty good even with multi touch.

ASUS F55A has stereo speakers not located on the top of the keyboard as usual but underside of the notebook. The speakers perform good in our test and they has good volume level which is enough to watch movies with some friends. The sound quality is also very nice and we have no problem while listening Indian music and some pop and rock music as well. Overall ASUS F55A has nice speakers.

ASUS F55A runs very cool in both the idle mode or in load. The temperatures of both the surface and around the keyboard remains in the good temp limit so there is no problem if you use it on the lap. The ASUS F55A does not heat up much when we run the benchmarks to push the limits and that is a good thing to me. The ASUS F55A remains very quiet in idle mode and the fan turn off completely and runs very slowly most of the time. Fan produces respectively loud noise when the notebook was under load or when we run benchmarks.

ASUS F55A has all the connectivity option except Bluetooth. It has Kingston lock, optical drive, on the right side and on the left side, it has VGA, HDMI, Ethernet port, 1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0, 2x audio ports. It has only a card reader on the front. It also has “N/B/G” band WiFi for high speed wireless connectivity but it does not have Bluetooth so that is the only thing that may cause problem for some people who keep their cell phones connected with their notebooks.

ASUS F55A has a 47 watts Li-ion battery which does well in our test and lasts for about 314 minutes which is good for a notebook. We runs all the applications as a normal users does daily on his notebook, for example Microsoft Office work, typing while listening audio songs, watching HD movies, some gaming and surfing web via WiFi to get the most realistic results.

ASUS F55A is a good notebook which performs good in benchmarks and it has good connectivity option except Bluetooth. It has a good WiFi as well. It has nice but solid design and the display is pretty much good for notebooks of this price range. The ASUS F55A has good touchpad but keyboard is not good as touchpad and it often miss taps during typing. ASUS F55A runs cool but note quite when notebook is under load.
