We had review many ultrabooks these days and we have decide to go for same row all the month. What should a ultrabook have and what not?. That is the main question which comes in our mind when we talk about ultrabook because some people did no even know the difference between the laptop and ultrabook and some people may have different answers for that but I think a good notebook should be light weight as well as good connectivity option, good display and speakers and best keyboard/ touch pad so what is your answer?, tell me in comments!. ASUS has been very consistent as for as build quality and performance are concerned but Today we are going to review another ASUS notebook of ZenBook series which is Asus Zenbook UX51VZ.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has a design similar to any ultrabook with no optical drive (internal) and the overall shape is thin than some other laptops so its kind of between laptops and ultrabooks with the weight of 2.2 kg which is good for a notebook. The cases is made with metal alloy which give it not only the solidity but also gives options to designer to make cases more attractive and the brushed aluminum surface give it a perfect attractive look. The overall design and cases is strengthened enough to manage regular pressure mostly by user’s hand and it can easy absorb small hatches as well. Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has nice smooth edges and I will say, ASUS done well, usually we saw that mostly notebook have good design especially surface but on the edges, there are improvement required but Asus Zenbook UX51VZ does not have that problem so Overall Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has a great attractive design.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has 15.6 inch LG LED backlight 1920x1080 IPS panel display which is very nice for Asus Zenbook UX51VZ as a all-rounder notebook because IPS panel have performed very well especially their viewing angles are just great than any other kind of displays. The IPS display has nice contrast ration as expected and very nice viewing angles as well. We had no issue when watching a movie with friends so that is what IPS panel does. The brightness is nice as expected and we had no issue working in park in day light and even in the home opposite of light as well. Asus uses a premium IPS panel from LG (LP156WF4), which offers significant advantages when compared to regular TN panels, it has great image quality and we found no problem in its ability of displaying high resolution images with different colors. Overall Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has great IPS display.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has a full keyboard with separate Numpad and its good for a all-rounder notebook to have a full size keyboard. The Chiclet style keyboard has quite large keys and I think anyone would have any issues regarding key size. The plastic made keys with smooth finish make the keyboard perfect for the fast typing as well as navigation i.e. whatever work to want to do , keyboard is ready!. The keys are absolutely perfect for typing as far responsiveness is concerned and the accuracy can be achieve easily with this keyboard. The touchpad is of decent as expected for this kind of notebook ( 15.6 inch ). The touch pad is not large as we have seen in some gaming notebook but this one is not designed specifically for gaming, its for all kind of tasks but honestly we do not have any problem whether its multi gesture function or key for left/ right click. Overall Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has nice keyboard and touchpad.
ASUS has decided to go with specialist so they make a contract with Bang & Olufsen to equip the Asus Zenbook UX51VZ with audio solution that match and beat the other notebooks from their competitor and Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has a subwoofer with the 2 stereo speaker and overall they produce awesome sound which really pleased us while gaming and watching movie with friends as well. The volume is loud enough and good base as well as nice sound quality. Overall Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has nice audio solution.
The Asus Zenbook UX51VZ remain very cool during the idle mode and users can use it on lap while normal work but not when gaming or doing some intensive work as well. The Asus Zenbook UX51VZ runs quite hot during the stress test and its not possible to use it on lap especially while gaming or other intensive stuff. The fans never full stop during the idle mode and from idle mode we means, Microsoft office work, text editing and photo editing and playing audio songs and web surfing via Wifi. The Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has two fans which produce ignorable noise when we were watching HD movie but it was quite loud during the benchmarks work and video editing as well. Overall Asus Zenbook UX51VZ remains quite cool but not quite especially in stress mode.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has good connectivity options, the networking components are a carry-over from the smaller UX31A The Mini PCIe module Centrino Advanced-N 6235 from Intel supports both Bluetooth 4.0 and the WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g/n. The Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has 2x USB 3.0, HDMI, Ethernet and AC-in on the left side and on the right side, it has 1x USB 3.0, card reader, mini USB, audio jack. The Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has no optical drive as it is very thin so its reasonable as you can use an external CD/DVD drive. Overall it has very good connectivity options.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has a 8 cell Li-Ploymer battery of 70 watts which keep it running in test for about 398 minutes which is very nice for the notebook with power full components inside. We try to get the most realistic results by measuring battery life doing the normal tasks as Microsoft office work, text/ photo and some gaming as well HD video clips and surfing web via Wifi, which a normal user is going to do on it daily.
Asus Zenbook UX51VZ has nice attractive design and great IPS display. It is very thin as a notebook and performs really great in our tests. It has good keyboard and touch pad. The connectivity options are also nice and nice battery life as well. It does not have a optical drive but its reasonable as it is very thin so choosing Asus Zenbook UX51VZ is a perfect decision.
