The things are changing dramatically in the notebook market as the people are intended to buy the laptops just according to their needs and to do so they are surfing on the web and checking the reviews, I remember when I was willing to buy my 1st notebook, I almost spend a week in checking reviews so we are trying to be as close as possible to our trade mark “No bull shit, just facts” i.e. we were/are/will never post any review (planted) and just post the facts. Today we are going to review a HP notebook as dell is also fame in notebooks market and its one of the old manufacturers; today the beauty on the table is HP EliteBook 8770w.

HP EliteBook 8770w has the green grey color theme which looks good but not as attractive as some of the other EliteBook notebooks of HP had. The case is built by the metal and the green and grey color gives it a beast look and the total weight of HP EliteBook 8770w is about 3.93 kg which is acceptable for the gaming notebooks such as ASUS GX70 or MSI GX60. The design is quite good and solid build quality can be feel by first look at HP EliteBook 8770w. The hinges are fine to handle the display and the strengthened the display to do not move freely. The case is built mostly with the metal and some plastic work can be seen under the HP EliteBook 8770w. The user have the option to open the down side without difficulty and there are no screws. Overall HP EliteBook 8770w has nice design.

HP EliteBook 8770w has LG IPS display panel of 17.3 inches which is quite expected from this model as it is kind of heavy weight notebook so we are expecting good results from it in our display tests. The brightness level is quite good but its not consistent as it has to be and you can easily see the difference in brightness on some points on the screen especially near to bottom edges but its ignorable and contrast is pretty good as well as good viewing angles just perfect as you can expect from any IPS panel display. The display earns a great score in the viewing angle test. The user is greeted by very stable viewing angles which only permit minor color and brightness changes. HP keeps its promise and the viewing angles remain great both vertically and horizontally. The good brightness, nice contrast and viewing angles make it a good display for the outdoor usage. Overall HP EliteBook 8770w has nice display.

HP EliteBook 8770w keyboard is really nice and we are really happy to see the performance of the notebook and size of the keys are good enough for the users who want the precise tying. The keyboard is basically backlight keyboard of Chiclet style and the size of keys is enough for typing as well. The keyboard has also numpad and few special function keys for wifi, volume etc. The key stroke is pretty decent. The touchpad is also nice and large as well. There are three keys for the users both on upper and bottom side of the touchpad. The touchpad is good for multi touch gesture and its very responsive. There is also a pointing stick which is also good. Overall keyboard and touchpad are pretty good.

HP EliteBook 8770w has two stereo speakers which are not as good as we were expecting from a high end EliteBook series notebook. HP EliteBook 8770w is not a good performer as far as audio is concerned. The sound quality is not good at all and base is quite low as well. The speakers are not just upto the mark as of a gaming notebook. Overall HP EliteBook 8770w has poor speakers.

The thing that we really like about HP is that they somehow manage their notebooks to run well under the problematic level of temperatures and HP EliteBook 8770w continues that legacy. The HP EliteBook 8770w runs very cool in idle mode and temperatures remain low than some of other competitor notebooks in out stress test. The fan never completely turned off and keeps running but was not audible. The fan runs louder in stress tests and its noise was quite audible in stress test. Overall its runs cool but note quiet in stress test.

The HP EliteBook 8770w has all the necessary options for connectivity for any kind of user. It has Bluetooth 4.0 and USB 3.0 for high speed wireless communication and It has card reader at the front, At the left side, it has Kingston lock, 2x USB 3.0, Ethernet port, FireWire, display port and 1x USB 2.0 + eSATA port. It has nothing at rear but on the right side, it has 2x USB 2.0, VGA, 2x Audio ports and optical drive. Overall HP EliteBook 8770w has all the necessary options.

HP EliteBook 8770w has a 8 cell lithium-ion battery which manage to keep it running only for 192 minutes which is not good for a gaming notebook, at least it should lasts for about 250+ minutes. We try to get the most realistic results by measuring battery life doing the normal tasks as Microsoft office work, text/ photo and some gaming as well HD video clips and surfing web via Wifi and gaming , which a normal user is going to do on it daily.

HP EliteBook 8770w is a good notebook with good design and excellent touchpad and good keyboard. It runs cool but not quiet while gaming. The HP EliteBook 8770w has performed really good in the benchmarks and it has good display of 1080p. It has all the connectivity options as well. The speakers are really poor and low battery life. Overall its not a bad choice to make but honestly I would prefer MSI of ASUS notebooks for gaming.
