MSI GT70 Review + BenchMarks

Notebooks are the most searched topic and most people do some much research especially in America, Canada and other European countries these days. When I ask few people about their ideal notebook, i.e. what are the components or features they want to have in their personal notebooks. They replied me with some expected answers, all of them want their notebook to be faster but light weight and that is the same as my opinion and of most people who like mobility. The notebook is really hot these day and people are buying much more than past. As every brand has introduced its notebooks so competition is very tough among them and that thing cause some good notebooks being launched with less price. MSI has been in the notebook market from many years and they made very nice notebooks especially gaming notebooks so today we review another MSI gaming notebook, MSI GT70.

MSI GT70 has a nice stylish black body made with the aluminum and the brushed surface gives it a nice gaming notebook look. The lid is also been made with aluminum so overall, it looks like a beast. The borders have been made with plastic and especially grids of speakers look good. The design is kind of different so some may like it, some not. This beast has the weight of about 3.93 KG so really, you can’t expect these gaming notebooks to be light weight as ultrabooks. The MSI GT70 is almost 6 cm in height which is also like some other gaming notebooks. The MSI GT70 has been built solidly and you can feel that when use it. Overall MSI GT70 has nice design.

MSI GT70 has a 17.3 inch LED backlight display which offers the resolution of 1920x1080. We have already review some gaming notebooks with the 1080p display but this one has nice matte surface which looks great. The display has nice contrast ratio and brightness and they improve the image quality very well and we can easily use the MSI GT70 outside of room, we had no problem to use it in the park while typing the display section of this review. The ability to display black color clearly and with details, I am talking about black background of ultra-high resolution images. The display is basically not a glare screen so reflection is not a issue with it. The viewing angles are great as well and we had no problem to watch a movie and gaming with some friends but a little brightness lost when open up lid too much but that is not a big issue. Overall display is great for gaming.

MSI GT70 has a backlight keyboard which includes numpad as other gaming notebook and they contracted Steel Series for making gaming keyboard as they had mention on their website. The key have been redesign and some of the keys have replaced to make it a nice keyboard sa they mention, they are focusing on gamers so they do it in that way. The Anti-Ghosting technology working well and they keyboard is really a good one especially for the gamers, it can easily handle the 10 taps easily and it does that during our test. There is a touch bar at the top of the keyboard, you can manage the fan speed, turbo mode, wifi etc. just from this bar and that is a nice feature. The touchpad is note large but not small as well, it is of decent size but not as large as some other gaming notebooks have. Its quite responsive and does well during our test and key do the same nice work. The touchpads does well in multi gesture test and its very much improved when it comes about responsiveness than the previous model. Overall MSI GT70 has nice keyboard and touchpad.

MSI GT70 has nice speakers above the keyboard and a subwoofer at the bottom , The THX True Studio help the MSI for MSI GT70 and the speakers + woofer  produce very nice sound while gaming, movies, audio songs what ever. The sound quality is also great and the base is good as well. The volume is loud more than enough for a notebook and we are really pleased with the sound of the MSI GT70. Overall MSI GT70 has nice sound solution.

The temperatures remain low during the idle mode and the CPU temperatures, around the keyboard and sides of the notebook remain low as well. The temperatures increased when it was under stress and especially rear become very hot and we suggest to not use it on lap while gaming because it become really hot while gaming to use on lap but you can use it on table. The temperatures were under danger level but may cause problem to use on lap while gaming but in idle mode, its O.K. The fan did good job and remain quiet when the notebook was in idle mode and produce loud noise when it was under stress and it was really distracting and disturbing if you do any work that requires concentration. Overall it runs warm and loudly under stress/ gaming.

MSI GT70 has a nice wifi of “N/B/G”  band which is really high speed and Bluetooth 4.0 for high speed wireless communication. It has 3x USB 3.0 ports, 4x audio jacks and card reader on the left side and on the right side it has optical drive and 2x USB 2.0 ports. On the rear, it has HDMI, eSATA, VGA, Ethernet port, Kingston lock and AC-in. Overall MSI GT70 has all the connectivity options that you may needed.

MSI GT70 has a 87 watts, 9 cell Lithium Li-ion battery. Mostly gaming notebook do not cross the 260 minutes of battery life in out battery life test but this one does and it lasts for about 278 minutes which is great, except 289 minutes of battery life of ASUS N76VZ, there is no gaming notebook that cross 260 minutes limit that we have tested. We do some MS-Office work, typing + listening audio songs, watching HD movie, surfing web via wifi, some gaming, photo editing etc. to get the most accurate results.

MSI GT70 is a good gaming notebook which performs really good in our benchmarks and other tests. It has a nice keyboard and touchpad and low temperatures as well as high speed wifi. It has nice 1080p display as well. The sound is also great and its one of the best sound solution onboard of any gaming notebook we have test so far. The fan runs loudly while gaming and it’s a bit expensive as well. Overall it’s a nice choice for as a gaming notebook.
