Notebooks are the most searched topic and most people do some much research especially in America, Canada and other European countries these days. When I ask few people about their ideal notebook, i.e. what are the components or features they want to have in their personal notebook. They replied me with some expected answers, all of them want their notebook to be faster but light weight and that is the same as my opinion and of most people who like mobility. The notebook is really hot these day and people are buying much more than past. As every brand has introduced its notebooks so competition is very tough among them and that thing cause some good notebooks being launched with less price. ASUS is also famous for its quality build notebooks so today we review another Toshiba notebook, Toshiba Satellite U920t-100.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 is a 12.5 inch (tablet + notebook) and its about 20 mm thick and the that is measured in tablet mode. The weight of Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 is 1.5 Kg which is almost equal to some other (tablet + notebook). The Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 is made with plastic and aluminum is used very little in the body but mostly plastic has been used in manufacturing process. This gives the users, the ability to grip it enough and carry around and this thing help to carry it in tablet mode. The problem seems a bit with the sliding mechanism which could be a manufacturing error in design and we suggest Toshiba to improve it because the slide mechanism may losses the ability to slide after some time. The hinges are not good as well and user may feel that problem when change the mode from tablet to notebook. Overall Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has good design.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has 12.5 inch gorilla glass TFT IPS display which has the resolution of 1366x768 and for a notebook + tablet, it is enough because if your display had 720p+ or 1080 resolution than you may not see the icon because of small screen size and high resolution. The scratches are a big problem for notebook users and when they are visible on screen especially, it looks very odd so Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has scratch resistant layer on the screen and that is a nice thing. The brightness is not great but pretty acceptable and the problem we see with display is that brightness is slightly low near to edges and that is not good for a (tablet + notebook). The ability to display colors properly, the display has great contrast ratio and good image quality as well. Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 had a problem in outdoor use because of average level brightness and the surface of screen is also reflective and these things made the outdoor working very hard. The viewing angles are pretty good and the brightness may loses when you try to see the things from sides but the colors does not distracted. As Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 windows 8 based so it has to be touchscreen notebook and it does well in that aspect and we have no problem while using it especially in tablet mode. Overall Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has pretty decent display.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has isolated, backlight keyboard for users with the decent size keys as a 12.5 inch notebook. The surface of keys is smooth and soft with enough key spacing which ensures the accurate typing. The input concept is based on the keyboard and touchscreen, which makes the multi-touch touchpad with a spongy pressure point less important. Maybe, Toshiba should have altogether sacrificed the touchpad. Despite the fact that the keyboard is nigh silent, seasoned typists will not be satisfied with Toshiba's input design. Thankfully, Toshiba gives the Satellite U920t-100 backlight which kicks in automatically when a key is pressed and turns off after 13 seconds to save on battery. Overall Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has good keyboard and touchpad but size of touchpad is very small.

Toshiba has mention about their improved cooling system and Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has that so we were expecting low temperatures and it fulfill those expectation and runs very cool in idle mode as well as in the stress tests and the temperatures around the keyboard and on the sides and inside remain well under the danger level. The fan remain quiet most of the time and it turn off completely some times in the idle mode and when Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 was running in stress test, the noise of fan increased and it was quite audible and it cause distracting for some users but not to worry for normal users who are not going to do video editing and all that kind of stuff.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has good connectivity options for users. Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has Bluetooth 4.0 and wifi for high speed wireless communication. It has 1x USB 3.0, Format lock, Power button and Volume rocker on left side and on the right side, it has audio jack and card reader. It has 1x USB 3.0, HDMI, AC-in on rear. The Ethernet port is missing and that may cause problem for users and you just can take USB -> Ethernet adaptor every were with you. It does not have display port as well. Overall Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has good connectivity options but not all important ones.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 has a 3 cell, 45 watts Lithium-ion battery which should be lasts more 4 hours and it does, it lasts for about 282 minutes in our tests and it’s a good thing. We run all the application and do all the tasks which a normal user does, for example we do some MS-Office work, typing + listening audio songs, watching HD movie, surfing web via wifi, some gaming, photo editing etc. to get the most accurate results.
Toshiba Satellite U920t-100 is a good (notebook + tablet) and it has some good things as well as some bad one. It has good display and keyboard and responsive touchpad. The connectivity options are good and It is very light weight and especially (notebook + tablet) modes are very attractive. On the other hand, Ethernet port + display port is not available and speaker are not good as expected and touchpad is of small size for multi touch function. The brightness is low near the edges of screen. Overall performs good in benchmarks and battery life is good (282 minutes).
