Alienware 18

Alienware 18

There are plenty of notebooks are available in the market these days but getting the best of it is just not easy for persons which are not really interested in PC or related to IT. The last visit of mine in the market of Sargodha and Lahore was very good especially the visit of Lahore market and I was really surprised to see the new notebooks with 4th Gen Intel CPUs and even many models of Alienware notebooks were also available there as well. It was my best friend to buy a gaming notebook who was with me on that visit so after all the hard walking work we decide to order the new Alienware 18 notebook which has the latest 4th Gen Core i7 Extreme mobile quad core CPU and many other solid components inside as well and by the way, I am very thankful to my him for letting me do all the tests i.e. benchmarks on his new Alienware 18 notebook.

The Alienware 18 is a great notebook with very nice monster looks which has become the trademark for the Alienware gaming notebooks. We had review many gaming notebooks of 15 to 17 inches but the Alienware 18 is a bit bigger, Yes it’s a 18 inch notebook (18 x 13 x 2.3 inches). The Alienware 18 is a heavy notebook to carry around as its total weight is about 5.49 Kg which is not suitable for a normal person to carry around. The design of notebook is solid in looks. The lid’s back is really well finished and great regarding material quality. The notebook has much plastic work on cases which does not only give it shiny looks but also the solidity without increasing unnecessary weight. There are plenty of improvements have been made in design of Alienware 18. Overall Alienware 18 has great design and solid build quality.

The Alienware 18 has 18.4-inch 1080p Samsung Super PLS WLED, FHD Glossy Display. The Alienware 18 has really larger display screen which will definitely please the gamers. The display has pretty nice picture which can be a good point for the professionals especially the people who works in the 3D models. The max brightness is enough for any kind of user which also help in outdoor working. The Alienware 18 has a glossy display which also creates a little problem in form of reflection in outdoor working but it is not new for Alienware notebooks, anyway it is still useable outside. The contrast ratio is really nice and the viewing angles are like of IPS panel of apple MacBook PRO. The display is perfect for professionals, gamers and all kind of users so overall Alienware 18 has great and larger display screen.

The new Alienware 18 is equipped with perfect solid styled keys with sharp edges and the pressure points with so much accuracy which is really surprised for the gamers and also the response is really nice. The overall size of the keys is large and the blue back lighting makes it a nice looking notebook in dark. The Alienware 18 has some addition keys called “macro keys” with multiple functions which is really cool for gaming guys. The Alienware 18 has large touchpad as well and the special thing is, it is illuminated which looks great in dark. This illumination matches the overall look of notebook in dark with blue lighting. The touchpad has top class smooth surface and perfect for gliding the fingers on it. The touchpad is not much larger which is usual in gaming notebooks but it has good size which is just right for users. The touch buttons are also present under the touchpad. The touchpad can track multi fingers without any problem. Overall Alienware 18 has nice keyboard and touchpad.

The Alienware 18 runs a bit less louder with 3 fans than its competitors and we were unable to hear any annoying noise during the normal use and even in the Cinema 4D work time, the Alienware 18 remain quieter. The noise increase in stress test i.e. Benchmarks and in some gamers like FarCry 3.The noise during the movie playback was low and virus scan was also running but still the noise was lower than the competitors. The Alienware 18 is a less louder notebook and the temperatures remain really cooler in the normal working and even in Cinema 4D work time. The notebook remain cool in Virus Scan and HD movie playback. The temperatures definitely raised during gaming and Benchmarks but still they were low than many gaming notebooks around so yes, you can use this notebook on the lap but not during benchmarks. Overall Alienware 18 remain cool and quiet as a gaming notebook.

The Alienware 18 has equipped with really two speakers and subwoofer which produce really good sound for the music and games. The Alienware 18 stands in upper good category regarding speaker performance. The max volume is really louder for a notebook and the sound quality was really nice. The subwoofer and not to forget the Dolby Digital Home Theater V4 software for plenty of features for users. Overall Alienware 18 has nice speakers.

The Alienware 18 has plenty of connectivity options for the users. It has high speed Broadcom WiFi and the latest Bluetooth 4.0 module for high speed wireless connectivity. The Alienware 18 also has 2x USB 3.0 ports, Kingston lock port, AC-in, HDMI, Mini-Display port and 3x audio jacks on the left side and it also has 2x USB 3.0, slot-in drive, card reader, RJ-45 LAN port on the right side. The Alienware 18 has Qualcomm Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller which is really great. Overall Alienware 18 has really great connectivity options.

The Alienware 18 has 8 Cells lithium-ion based battery of 86 watts which manages to keep the notebook running for about 142 minutes in our special gaming notebook battery life test. We done all the normal task and especially gaming and 3D applications. The web surfing via WiFi and also working as hot spot. The notebook copy/ burn full DVD disk and HD Video play is also included in our battery life test. The Alienware 18 lasted for a bit less time than expected which is 160 minutes in our special gaming notebook battery life test. Overall Alienware 18 has just average level battery life.

The Alienware 18 is really a nice gaming notebook with plenty of features. If we talk about good things than, it has great 4th Gen Intel Core i7 quad core CPU with NVidia GTX 780 SLI and 18.4 inch display which is really nice with great image quality. The Alienware 18 also has good speakers and the connectivity features are also nice. The Alienware 18 has nice keyboard and touchpad as well. The design and build quality are also perfect. The Alienware 18 runs quieter and cool than many gaming notebooks. The only negative thing is its battery life which is only 142 minutes. The Alienware 18 is perfect for gamers and enthusiasts but still its your choice and you are the one who had to make decision. It’s a good notebook for users who want performance but ready to compromise a little on battery life, anyway there are always other notebooks to consider.
