The notebook market is really hot these days and the environment is not much different from last year except Dell is dominating instead of HP in daily working category in notebook market with booth ultrabooks and laptops, we are not talking about gaming notebooks !. These days of Christmas and New Year are great opportunities for people with small budget as the price drops much more than last year. People should pay attention to new laptop from Dell and Acer which are doing really great job especially Dell. Dell is known for its consistent performer notebooks and invention whereas Acer is known for its sleek design, support and notebooks with good battery life but today we are going to review a Lenovo notebook which is the new Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p is really looks like a slim beast, the color scheme is really attractive and makes this notebook a charm. The black color dominates the scheme. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p also has red color which makes it more attractive, among many other notebooks. The base has been made with plastic which is good enough. The lid is good regarding build quality and softness. The hinges are good enough to take care of the lid. The area around the keyboard especially palm rest area is very well designed. The corners are not much sharp nor too smooth which is a good thing. We do not find any problematic softness in Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p. Overall Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p has good design which is attraction charm and nice build quality.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p has 15.6-inch display screen which is basically LG Philips TN LED panel with the max supported resolution of about 1920 x 1080. The screen is perfect for this size and for the notebook of this price range. The screen has very high brightness as expected. The image quality is also nice and it will definitely please the professional designers. The contrast is also good and these both are required for any notebook to be used perfectly and easily in outdoor scenario which is good for Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p. The viewing angles are good as well but one thing to mention here that it becomes more difficult to see things on screen if you sit a little bit higher than ideal position but not in case if you sit below than that level. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p can be used outside with a little problem of reflection but a single user can easily use it outdoor. Overall Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p has good display screen.

The IdeaPad Y510p has a pretty attractive backlit keyboard which is a perfect match for this notebook. The keyboard has large keys with pretty attractive design and colors scheme as black surface on top and red glowing color around the keys looks really good. The keys do a good job in our test and proved to be efficient, accurate and with backlights as well. The feedback is really good and the pressure points are perfect and they had to be for the notebook of this price level. The touchpad has large surface for multi-gesture operation as well. The touchpad is basically a click pad so you can use its whole surface for clicking. The touchpad performs really well in our normal and multi-gesture test and proved to be a top class touchpad.  The surface of the touchpad has a little silver shading, not much which looks good and the surface is really suitable for gliding fingers over it. Overall IdeaPad Y510p has good keyboard and touchpad.

The IdeaPad Y510p has very good speakers, Dolby Home Theater V4 certified sound solution is the perfect a gaming notebook and IdeaPad Y510p has that, The speakers are located above the keyboard which is a good position for the speakers. The speakers produce really rich quality sound which is very good to hear. The base is good and the max volume is also loud. The Lenovo used LBL 2.0 speakers in IdeaPad Y510p to get the best result and it does the trick. Overall IdeaPad Y510p has good speakers.

The IdeaPad Y510p has gaming notebook having a NVidia GT 750M and a Quad Core Intel Core i7 CPU inside and usually, the notebook of this category has higher temperatures than a normal user expects, the IdeaPad Y510p remains cool most of the time during our normal and stress tests and a normal user is not going to experience the warmness because of hours of benchmarks executions. This notebook can be used on the lap during normal and gaming but if you are going to render videos for longer periods of time than it not good to use in on lap. The IdeaPad Y510p has two fans, one for CPU and one for GPU and with both running, you can’t expect it to be fully quiet, the noise is present all the time but it was low and gets high in stress test but it is a decent level and normal user is not going to be distracted by noise during normal or gaming. So overall IdeaPad Y510p remains cool and quiet.

The IdeaPad Y510p has good connectivity options for the users. The main thing which we don’t like is that they put mostly connectivity ports on the one side which is a very difficult position to take care of flash drive or other cable connectors. The IdeaPad Y510p has latest Bluetooth 4.0 and Intel WiFi card for high speed wireless connectivity. The IdeaPad Y510p also has Kingston lock, 1x USB 2.0 and 2x Audio ports on the right side and it has card reader at the front side. It has 2x USB 3.0 ports, VGA, HDMI, Gigabyte LAN and power-in port on the left side. Overall IdeaPad Y510p has all the necessary connectivity options.

The IdeaPad Y510p has a lithium-ion based battery pack of 6 cells with the capacity of 72 Watts and it manages to keep the IdeaPad Y510p running for about 173 minutes which is not a good battery life, it should be at least over 240 Minutes. We perform all the normal and stress work on notebook e.g. Microsoft office operations, HD videos playback, listening music while typing, surfing web via Ethernet and WiFi, files copying, photo editing, 3D rendering, gaming, copying files from optical disk etc. to get the realistic results which are applicable to real life instead of crappy battery life benchmarks. Overall IdeaPad Y510p has short, poor battery life.

The IdeaPad Y510p is really a considerable notebook with plenty of pros and a major con, the IdeaPad Y510p has latest Intel Core i7 Quad Core 4th Gen. CPU with NVidia GT 750M 2GB GPU and 8GB of RAM and 1080p Display screen. The IdeaPad Y510p has attractive design and solid build quality. The speakers are good enough and the connectivity options are wide. The performance is really great in benchmarks and keyboard and touchpad done a good job in our tests. The battery life of IdeaPad Y510p is short; 173 Minutes which is much lower than expected level of 240 Minutes at least. The IdeaPad Y510p placed at higher level because of its performance and feature but it’s the poor battery life which drops this notebook from considering it for our Editor’s Choice award and we recommend Lenovo to improve that soon.
