Toshiba Qosmio x870 has very gentle kind of laptop, the design is great and the aluminum body is what is mostly people want to have, The lid is made of aluminum obviously, It has dotted surface so the users who are kind of allergic with finger prints on their laptop’s lid would be pleased with Toshiba Qosmio x870’s lid surface. This thing also improves the grip on the laptop which is also very important to me. The keyboard is both simple and stylish and the large 17” display can be easily twisted according to our need and its nicely placed by two hinges as well. Overall the design is very nice.
The Qosmio 870 comes with the latest Intel 3rd Gen, Ivy Bridge quad core CPU which is good enough as far as CPU processing power is concern for gaming and multitasking. The RAM is more than enough for gaming, the 16GB is much space and you can use the RAMDISK software to use that extra space as we do for video editing or running Firefox / Photoshop . The boot drive is an SATA3-SSD from SanDisk + 1 TB HDD for storage which is enough for me at least.
The Qosmio 870 has two screen options, one is HD+ @1600x900 without the 3D vision support and the other one is the 1080p screen with the 3D vision support and its all depends upon the user’s desire who buy the laptop. We have it with full 1080p HD 3D vision supported display and as it’s the feature of Nvidia GPU which is inside it so you need 3D vision glasses as well for 3D. The display is bright enough for every usage either gaming or watching movie. The screen has wide viewing angles when running in normal 2D mode and when it comes to 3D, with the glasses you need to sit just in front of the display. The screen is a little bit less brighter at the edges comparatively to the center. We runs few games and watch 3 movies both in 2D and 3D vision mode and the results are just good enough. Overall the screen is just what you need with a gaming laptop.
The Qosmio 870 has a nice keyboard with decent size of keys on it which is just good for me and for most of you as well. The distance b/t the keys is enough, for high speed tying The Qosmio 870 has the good keyboard but some times the keys does not register the tap. The back lit keyboard is very right for the people to work in nights and the touch is very good. It is of big size as we see in the previous review of Toshiba laptop last month, the buttons are integrated in surface and the red light make you feel good especially in the night .Solid responsive button for really great to use and I say, “you are going to love it”.
The speakers are decent but not very good as we see in the other high end laptop as the bass is very low but you can watch the movies and play the games with decent audio quality and…. Yes the speaker are not bad but not very good as well.
Qosmio 870 produce heat as the other gaming laptop does and its not much different than the other and requires a notebook cooler while playing games on it.The noise of the this The Qosmio 870 is like other gaming laptops….yes loud, its fan produces much noise while gaming but and the thing which is really unpleasant to me is that it noise remain loud when I watch a 1080p HD movie on it and that is the one of two things which stop me to give it a silver award.
Toshiba Qosmio 870 has very good connectivity options as well. On the right side it has a Ethernet port, 2x USB 3.0 ports and the optical blue ray drive while on the other hand, it has 2 audio ports as usual and again 2x USB 3.0 ports and the HDMI port and the old school but needed VGA port and obviously power port for adaptor. The Toshiba Qosmio 870 comes with Bluetooth 4.0 and High speed n Wifi card inside for the wireless connectivity. Overall its has all the option which you may need.
The Qosmio has a poor battery timing. As the gaming laptops has low battery timing but this laptop has much lower battery timing even than the other gaming laptops. The battery Runs for only 71 minutes in our battery test, remember we run games and watch movie on it and battery become low and laptop turn off while the test was incomplete because we would do some Microsoft office work, some photo editing and wifi internet surfing so we then complete the other tests while charging it. Toshiba should provide a 80+ Wh battery insteed of just 47 Wh battery. Overall the battery lasted for 71 minute which is not good.
The Qosmio 870 gaming laptop has perform very good in all the benchmarks but Overall it lacks in 2 things, battery timings and fan noise. The Qosmio 870 has poor battery timings and produces noise consistently while watching movie on it. The summary of all this is “Qosmio 870 is good for gaming but low battery timings and produce noise while multimedia tasks”.
