MSI GX60 Review + BenchMarks

The laptops are being the common thing which is a necessary part of our daily life as well and almost every one spend their spare time on computer and most of them play computer game and they like to has a gaming PC but they can’t stay at one place so they always look for a gaming laptop which can run the games at decent FPS so every brand launches its gaming laptops series, today we will take a look at MSI gaming laptop which is MSI GX60.

MSI has a good design and the classic gaming laptop look with slightly flashy look with black color outside is a old design and we have seen this in many other gaming laptops as well. MSI has bring the same thing in this laptop. Glossy plastic work looks nice but the real problem is the finger print remain on it especially on the lid so most people do not like to have it on the lid. As in the spec, its clearly define as having a 15” display but this laptop has a big size than the other 15” laptop are so its just frustrate you  when you buy a 15” laptop but they give a 16.5” laptop with 15” display. By the build quality this laptop has a decent body which is actually made by metal to looks like some kind of classic alien look about which we discussed above.

AS the most gaming laptops are now coming with the Intel processor inside, the MSI has used AMD A10-4600m processor , it’s a quad core processor ,obviously without hyper threading. MSI GX60 has a AMD GPU, the AMD HD 7970M with 2GB of GRRD3 memory and 8GB-1600Mhz DDR3 RAM which is good enough for gaming. The CPU + GPU combination is looks good with AMD point of view. MSI GX60 has two SanDisk SSDs of 64GB in Raid 0 mode for some extra performance and also includes the Western Digital 750GB 7200rpm HDD for storage with some speed. This look to be a good storage combination to me.

MSI GX60 comes with 15” 1080p HD Display, with the 16:9 aspect ratio it runs with 1920x1080 resolution  which is must for a gaming laptop to have. The MSI GX60 has a decent brighter screen with decent view ability but the screen could be difficult to see from sides and that does not matters for many of us because we do not want to play games from left/right but yes when watching movies with friend, it does matters.

The keyboard has a little problem with keys placement as some keys are not placed where they are supposed to be and this frustrate many users who do typing work and it take a little time to use to it and the keys are of decent of size and did not miss a tap during our test and most important thing, it does not have a back light so may cause some problem to some users who uses laptop in night. The track pad is also of large size as expected from MSI gaming laptops and is very sensitive. The buttons are integrated in surface and does not have a separation line in between. The button used to be pressed a little bit more than we usually do, I don’t know it’s a manufacturing problem or not because a friend of mine is denying as he bought MSI GX60 but its not a big deal and you can easily use to it.

The audio is just amazingly top class and its quality is just too good and we really pleased with it. The built-in speakers are produces great loud sound which is also a plus point of MSI GX60 and its really great in audio department. Overall MSI has a done a excellent job as far as audio and speakers are concern.

The temperature of MSI GX60 is as good as a normal gaming laptop has in under load when you play games on it and most of time its remain under satisfactory level and you don’t have to worry about. The fan is surprisingly runs bot as quiet as expected and produces a lot of noise and even during the idle load, it makes you frustrated if you are doing a attentive work.

The MSI GX60 has a card reader and 2x USB 2.0 ports and 1x USB 3.0 port on the left side and on back side it has a  VGA, a mini Display and a HDMI port for display, an Ethernet port and a DC-in for adaptor and a Kingston lock, while on the right side, it has a optical blue Ray drive and 4x audio ports and a USB 2.0 port, it’s really surprising to see that….. MSI should provide more USB 3.0 ports instead of USB 2.0 ports and mini Display port. The MSI GX60 also has a Bluetooth 4.0 and N- wifi for high speed connectivity as well.

The MSI GX60 has 9 cell Li-ion battery of 87 Watts which does perform nice in our battery test and lasted for 333 minutes which is much greater then Toshiba Qosmio 870 which only lasted for 71 minutes. As most of the gaming laptops has low battery timings i.e. >200 minutes but MSI GX60 has a great 333 minutes of battery timings which is another plus point.

The MSI GX60 is a decent gaming laptop which runs as cool as a gaming laptop runs in games and in idle mode but fan is very noisy even in the idle mode and has great 333 minutes of battery timing, if you are looking to play modern games like BF3, Metro 2033 on it than I would not recommend it to you if you are willing to run all these in ultra but on Normal settings, it can run all of them with decent FPS, not a great performer but not a bad one too…

  • Decent design.
  • Decent performance.
  • Excellent Battery Timings.
  • Great Audio and speakers.
  • Runs cool as a gaming laptop.

  • Not for gamer who are use to run every game in ultra setting.
  • Noisy fan, rally frustrate.
