The laptops are very integral thing to have in todays life and mostly people took their laptop with them where they go and mostly students carry around their laptops whole day, from class rooms to cafeteria and that is why the light weight form of laptop is famous today a.k.a ultrabooks and every major brand is working 24 hours on the ultrabooks and bring the ready models in the market. Lenovo is a well known brand because of its reliable laptops and customer support. Today we are reviewing their Lenovo IdeaPad series laptop/ultrabook which is Lenovo IdeaPad S405.
Lenovo IdeaPad S405 is like their other 400 series ideapad laptop, with the solid black color and the plastic has been used in the body and the lid is looks great but when you push a little , you can twist it a little and also the body from down side plate and the lid of the Lenovo IdeaPad S405 really disappoint to see that the fingerprints remain on it and also the overall manufacturing quality of surface is pretty decent.It comes with a 14 inch TN LED display which really matches the overall look of Lenovo IdeaPad S405. The touchpad and keyboard are also of solid black color and matches pretty much with other parts.
The Display is of 14 inch and as the other Lenovo IdeaPad 400 series laptops, it has TN LED panel with the resolution of 1366x768 of ratio 16:9. The display work very well in our test when we watch a movie on it but we notice a problem with it which is, when we were viewing a mix colored images, the display is a bit less brighter from the right bottom corner , overll the brightness of display is decent but not good as expected. The people who used to carrying their laptops in day light and use it are going to disappoint with Lenovo IdeaPad S405’s display. The viewing angles are not really good and watching movie for multiple persons is also difficult.
The keyboard is looks decent and perform decently in our typing test but some keys like Enter has been shrunk to smaller size which is really not a good idea from Lenovo and the key are too much responsive and sometimes they just frustrate you because some keys pressed evern which finger touch them a little bit. The touch buttons are integrated in the surface and there is a white colored line for separation determination. The touch pad is really sensitive and it never miss a touch during our test, because of it bigger size, you can really enjoy to use it and the multiple gesture functionality is really nice.
The two speaker are pretty much of good level as expected from the Lenovo IdeaPad S400 series and the sound is really good but the base is missing, the quality is really good and the volume is as loud as enough for watching movie with few friends.
The temperature of Lenovo IdeaPad S405 does not exceeds to anyway near to problematic level and its run really cool than expected under load and the noise produced by the fan is also low and you can easily work on it or watch HD movie without any disturbance. The fan runs pretty quiet in idle mode and under load it produce a bit less noise than other notebooks.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S405 is pretty much good laptop as $500-$550 notebook should be and has some problems as keyboard keys are too much sensitive and regiter tap even just touch them, not apply the pressure as usually does to press and screen has brightness problem, It has a quad core AMD laptop with AMD latest graphics and 500GB HDD, for me it’s a decent laptop/ultrabook in less than $600 range.
