The storage is something that is very important in any PC build as well as for notebooks. The Hard Disk Drives are the traditional storage devices from past two decades but things are not the same today, from past 3 or 4 years, the SSDs have not been choose as main storage because of their low storage capacity but not in 2013. There are a lot of SSDs are available today in 480GB, 510GB and even in 960GB storage capacity and I think it’s the time for SSDs to take over the game from HDD. The main advantages of Solid State Drives are 1: They are shock proofed.  2: High read/ write speeds. The gamers/ enthusiasts love the SSDs but these days, notebook owner prefer SSDs because they do not worry about carrying their notebook carefully anymore regarding Storage Disks. Today we are going to review an SSD from Samsung with largest 1TB capacity which is Samsung 840 EVO 1 TB.

We already seen Samsung 830/ 840/ 840 Pro Solid state drive and they were very good in every aspect, Samsung had tremendously improve its name in SSD market and introduced highly reliable and fast SSDs in last 2 year. The technology in Samsung 840 EVO 1TB and in Samsung 840 SSD has a common thing, they had 3 BPC (bits/ cell) TLC NAND but it is in smaller size in Samsung 840 EVO 1TB. The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB has improved SAMSUNG MEX controller as well which has better Cortex R4( Triple Core ) @ 400 Mhz. The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB also has the latest SATA 3.1 support which is a new thing these days in the market. The queued trim commands support is also impressive. The encryption feature is not yet disabled but I hope that next firmware update will enable it. The 128 Gbit TLC NAND (19nm) is the main thing in EVO which allow Samsung to increase the capacity to 1TB.

The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB is available in 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1TB model which we had for review. The 2.5 inch 7 mm EVO can easily fit in any notebook and in any CPU with drive bay. The Samsung keep the notebook user in mind as well. The Samsung offer 3 years warranty with its Samsung 840 EVO SSDs but they do not mention the expected age of 840 EVO. The Samsung 840 was launched with pretty much similar thing which was later corrected and by keeping the 830/ 840 and 840 pro in mind, the expected age of Samsung 840 EVO is about 250+ TB write which is minimum so the previous 840 has been reported to last longer than that by exceeding 400TB+ and still alive. Let jump in and see the performance of Samsung 840 EVO 1TB in Benchmarks.

The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB is really a good SSD and because of it large capacity it has the advantage over other SSDs in the market especially crucial M500 960GB in terms of performance and performance and reliability (expected). The EVO SSD has improved storage technology, NAND, controller, cache mechanism and yes, it perform really great in benchmarks and you can see but keeping in view the performance of its predecessor Samsung 840 pro, the cache and overall performance of Samsung 840 EVO is not much improved which can make my decision to yes for replacing 840 Pro SSD with EVO SSD, but yes, it has high capacity and it can easily take over you HDD with better reliability and performance. The Samsung 840 EVO come with encryption disable and you have to wait for next firmware update to see it working. The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB has better performance and if you are buying SSD first time than its perfect choice for you with advantage of large capacity as well but if you already had Samsung 840 Pro/ OCZ vector than wait little until next firmware update.
