MSI CX61 Review + BenchMarks

Every person’s life in today’s world has become very fast and they want mobility from all the devices he need, even we also want to play games but not in front of desk because we do not want to stay at a place and it is not possible that you spend your at home but you have desire to gaming in free time, that is the reason which is father of the idea of gaming laptops. Today we are going to take a look at the MSI Entertainment+ gaming laptop which is MSI CX61.

MSI CX61 has a good design, the gray-black color seems to be good for any notebook but it is not same as some other MSI notebooks have. The body is imitates aluminum polish surface which is also looks nice as well. MIS did not use the metal strips to make it shiny and give it a solid look as they used simple plastic. The problem stays with the CX61’s display as if you are in a bus, the miner shocks cause display lid to bounce back and forth, since the hinges are stiff but exhibit a bit too much play. The total weight of CX61 is about 2.4 Kg. The base is not changed as in previous notebook, it produce a sound when we apply a little pressure on it. The design is good but still needs some improvements.

The CX61 has display of 15.6 inches which has the resolution of just 1366x768 pixels which is a good idea as GE60 has a 1080p HD display.  The screen is basically Samsung 156AT02-A04 which has good brightness and no problems at edges which is good but the resolution of 720p is just low for CX61. The display is reflective, glare-type which is good for indoor use but for outdoor, it is not suitable at all. The display has reflection problem as well in sun light and its almost impossible to use outside in sun light. The viewing angles are not quite handsome for me as you have to sit in front, center line position is only suitable to see the things on the screen. The IPS panel display suits the CX61 but MSI decides opposite and result is really poor.

As expected from MSI for CX61, the keyboard is basically Chiclet type and it is fully optimized for gaming. The keys have been resized and they are greater than previous model to make the gaming more easy. The arrow keys are also large to make the gamers happy and I appreciate that idea of increasing the size of keys. The keys are smooth and made by plastic. They produce a sound when pressed. The large size of keys make the fast typing a little difficult for couple of days but you will use to it after some time. The touch pad is of (2.95”x1.77”). The sensitivity is good for navigation if clicking is disable  but the touchpad miss the clicks and some time it clicks 2 or 3 times even if you just move the fingers over touchpad.  Overall keyboard is good but the touchpad is just not good enough.

The CX 61 has only two speaker and the quality of sound of speaker is really good. They are located on the top of keyboard and the volume is high enough for internal speakers. The base lacks some times but overall they are good enough to watch movie with some friends or play songs on it as far as audio and speakers are concern.

The temperature remains low during out tests when laptop was in idle mode and the vent is not blocked so you can use it on the legs easily and don’t worry for heat. When we run stress test, the area which is above the keyboard become very hot and the temperature was high around the vent as well. The noise of the fan was quite acceptable when laptop was in idle mode and the fan never stops rotation even in idle mode. The noise is under the limits when we run the benchmarks and some high application. Overall the temperature of CX61 are under the acceptable limits but noise of fan may cause interruption.

The MSI CX61 has variety of connectivity options. On the right side, it has 1x USB 2.0 port and optical drive, Ethernet port  and a VGA port while on the left side, it has 2x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, 2x audio ports, Kingston lock and a Power jack for adaptor. It has a card reader on the front side of the notebook. It also has a high speed “n” band wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 for high speed wireless communication as well. Overall MSI CX61 has great connectivity features.

As gaming laptop, the MSI CX61 has 49 Wh, Li-ion battery of 6 cells which is good enough for a gaming laptop and it does perform decent but not as good as expected as it lasts for about 289 minutes which is not bad at all for a gaming laptop and we were expecting almost like that from MSI CX61 and it does not disappoint us in this aspect. We run all the applications which a used run as Microsoft Office work, typing while playing audio songs, watching HD movie, photo editing and video editing as well as some gaming to get the more realistic results.

The MSI CX61 has perform good in the BenchMarks and it has great connectivity option as well. The MSI CX61 has good gaming potential as it has a core i7QM and Nvidia GPU to handle the daily tasks. The display is just not good enough and has limited viewing angles and it has resolution of just 1366x768 which is not enough for a gaming laptop. The battery life is good and the temperature remain low but fan does not remain quiet for most of the time. Keyboard is nice and very suitable for gamer but touchpad is not good enough.
